Craftsmen Training Institute

In 2009 we founded our Craftsmen Training Institute (CTI) in Banmore, Madhya Pradesh. The institute is a response to a critical need-gap we identified within the construction industry for well-trained skilled and semi-skilled labourers. With comprehensive courses available for new trainees, as well as upgrade courses for those already working, our hope is to increase the talent pool entering the industry in the areas of welders, fitters, grinders, gas cutters and electricians – as well as to provide quality livelihood opportunities for our graduates.

CTI is a non-profit endeavour. We believe that training skilled and unskilled labour can play an important role in poverty alleviation at the bottom of the pyramid and, to this end, we are actively partnering with programmes and organisations that can sponsor trainees. One such partnership is with the Madhya Pradesh District Poverty Initiative Project (MPDPIP)

Affiliations and certifications

Testimony to the high standards we set at CTI, we have been forging affiliations with respected academic and professional organisations since our inception. CTI is an approved training institute by The Indian Institute of Welding which is authorized national body of International Institute of Welding. All welders are examined and certified by IIW on completion of each training program. Our courses for Fitters and Fitter-cum-Pipe Fabricators have been certified by DNV (Det Norske Veritas), Norway. We are on a road map to expand CTI’s offering full technician level courses of duration one and two years and we hope to soon be granted affiliation by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), Ministry of Labour & Employment.

Madhya Pradesh District Poverty Initiative Project (MPDPIP)

MPDPIP is a long-term project started by the Government of Madhya Pradesh, funded by the World Bank. Since 2001 its aim has been to alleviate poverty in the state, by strengthening existing livelihoods and creating sustainable opportunities for those below the poverty line (BPL), thereby improving their income generation capacity.

Our partnership with the MPDPIP came in phase 2 of the project as it sought to create opportunities and impart training in a number of key employment areas, including construction. Working with the District Project Office of Shivpuri district, we have been allocated funds to provide training and accommodation to 27 young people for this year.

Providing livelihood opportunities to these young people not only impacts their future but that of their families for generations to come. We are actively working to extend this model to more districts so we can reach out to more and more young people.
